A screenshot of the Precious Plastic website with four panels featuring different elements of version 5 of Precious Plastic. In the main panel are the words " Precious Plastic, The next level unlocked by you", in the yellow panel to the right are the words "sustain the movement long-term", the blue panel at the bottom left reads "Increase the amount of plastic recycled", and the green panel bottom right reads "replace plastic by natural alternatives"

This feels like a bit of a ‘use it or loose it’ moment.

Yesterday Precious Plastic launched their plan for Version 5 of their project development. Since 2013 Precious Plastic HQ has supported a global community of keen beans to set up projects, start local conversations about tackling plastic pollution and build community around manufacturing from waste materials. What’s more, they’ve offered all of this for free through their website.

There’s now over 1000 projects around the world and if we’re honest Wastesmiths may not exist without it. Setting up Precious Plastic East was the first step in our Wastesmiths journey, and although we’d been determined to set up a social enterprise to use waste materials as a resource, discovering all the support and information provided by Precious Plastic was a catalyst.

The global Precious Plastic community gave us the confidence to build flat pack machines, set up a workshop and start recycling plastics less recycled like crab pot coatings and ocean rope. Today our profile proudly displays a PRO badge as a symbol of our support for this fifth chapter.

Among the things that this fifth Precious Plastic chapter will focus on will be financial sustainability, supporting an increase in the processing of less recycled plastics and an expansion of their Beyond Plastic project seeking out natural alternatives. We very much look forward to being a part of this next chapter as it unfolds ♻️💚🌍
