Wastesmiths CIC generates its income in two ways, from selling stuff and from grant funding. We sell products, workshops, event delivery and cinema tickets. Our funding supports a wide range of work documented below:

FACET funding gave us the support to set up our Great Yarmouth plastic recycling operation in 2022. The FACET project also gave us important relationships with the Norfolk County Council recycling team.

National Lottery – Awards for All funding supported us to engage over 5000 people with our Litter Arcade programme across Norfolk in 2023. Starting in February at the Norwich Science Festival we delivered 64 hours of Litter Arcade action in the county in 11 pop-up events. Our Litter Arcade is an invitation to start a conversation about the human problem relationship with plastic. We often pair it with our Plastic Museum of the Future.

Since 2023 we have been supported by the Know Your Neighbourhood fund managed by Norfolk Community Foundation. This funding supports us to grow our community around our projects. This support has been incredibly valuable at a point when our projects have become ready to be shaped by the community who care about them.

In the 2023/24 academic year Dudgeon STEM funding supported us to develop and deliver a set of alternative curriculum sessions exploring waste materials in clothing and fashion. These sessions culminated in students at East Norfolk Sixth Form College designing, making and entering an outfit into the international student Junk Kouture competition.

In May 2024 we received a commission from Precious Plastic HQ to create a ‘How-to’ video sharing how to build a litter arcade machine that gamifies plastic sorting. The Open Source Fund was looking for research and project proposals to further develop the global Precious Plastic community to commission in late 2023. We’re keen to see other Precious Plastic projects explore play for public engagement with their projects and to make a meaningful contribution to their work. We aim to have the ‘How-to’ live in early August.
