Team

Wastesmiths C.I.C. has a small and dedicated team of passionate people that we’ve gathered slowly around our social enterprise. We would like to introduce these important people to you below.

Kate

Kate is a visionary and passionate social entrepreneur who founded the We Wear The Trousers project through innovative initiatives like The Alternative Fashion School and Mend With Friends. Kate brings expertise from academia and the heritage sectors.

Kate came up with the name Wastesmiths, and was instrumental in identifying and securing the start-up funding that supported Wastesmiths set itself up. Over the last four years Kate’s ability to identify opportunities, and deliver projects with rigorous attention to detail has propelled Wastesmiths development into a social enterprise that’s achieving both social and environmental impact.

Cata

Director

Cata is a social and environmental actionist and innovator with a deep love for the land and the ways its stories weave us back into belonging. The resident Folk Herbalist, Cata facilitates folk herbalism programmes for Wastesmiths, reconnecting us to our plant heritage, and the wisdom of the land and our ancestors.

Now in its second cycle, the Plant Allies programme designed and delivered by Cata facilitates an exploration of the ways in which that plants are woven into our past and our present. Feedback from the participating community describe Plant Allies as “a lifeline, especially over the winter months” and “a balm for my soul”. Cata “truly embodies the wisdom she shares, guiding with generosity, clarity, and a reverence for the plants that is absolutely contagious.”
